WWWGrab fetches web pages and uses Set Machine to parse them.

File search + replace: Find "new text" / Text, replace with "new text" / Other text. Output everything else (*) as-is. String set "new text" contains both the search text (Text) and its replacement text (Other text).

  Extract information from emails

Set Machine can scan stored email folders (in MS Outlook, for example).   It's ideal for generating database records from formatted messages sent by PayPal, eBay, Amazon.com, etcetera.

Stock quote scraper: Locate "Last Trade:" on the page, skip over everything (*) until ... a "Price" pattern is encountered. When the Price is encountered run a sequence of actions called "NewQuote" to send "LastPrice" to the database.

  Extract information from the Web

WWWGrab fetches web pages and passes them to Set Machine, which parses the web page data and extracts the desired information.   This extraction of information from web (HTML) pages is known as "web scraping".

The WWWGrab download contains samples that can be adapted :

• stock quote scraper
• HTML table scraper

The samples generate database records with the extracted data.

Set Machine has a graphical user interface that allows you to configure and run the data transformations.

• WWWGrab.exe is a command line program and can be run as a Windows Scheduled Task.
• SMC.exe is a command line version of Set Machine (no GUI!).
• Set Machine is also packaged as a DLL and can be called by any program to transform a stream of data.
